Pam Alexis Cox is a Substance Use Disorder counselor, sober coach, and founder of Asians in Recovery. Her work is grounded in clinical training and a mindfulness-based, culturally informed approach — shaped in part by her own recovery, which sharpened her attention to the cultural and access gaps traditional behavioral health systems often miss.
Before entering behavioral health, Pam spent 15+ years leading brand strategy and product marketing in the health and wellness industry, including national retail launches and full P&L ownership — experience that now informs how she helps organizations build practical, culturally responsive approaches to care. A 2024 Albert Senella Award recipient, USC alumna, and graduate of the Women's Impact Alliance's Catalyst: Empowered Leader Program, she is passionate about building nonjudgmental spaces where people feel seen, supported, and able to reconnect.
Asian flush — the visible, biological reaction millions of AAPI individuals experience when they drink — has quietly become one of the most searched health terms in the community, with search interest up 40% over the past five years compared to the five years before. This talk uncovers why: a post-COVID spike in AAPI substance use, flat help-seeking rates, and a culture of silence rooted in the model minority myth and family honor.
Audiences leave with:
A clear, science-backed understanding of Asian flush and why it's been overlooked
Insight into the cultural drivers of AAPI substance use stigma
A concrete model for how peer support moves people from silence to help-seeking
Pam brings a rare combination to organizational consulting: clinical training in substance use and recovery, cultural fluency in the AAPI community, and 15+ years of brand and strategy experience in health and wellness. She advises organizations on:
